Brisket Burgers with Smoky BBQ Sauce

  • 60ml olive oil
  • 1.5kg beef brisket, trimmed
  • 500ml barbecue sauce
  • 125ml maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • Buns, cheese and salad, to serve
  • Preheat the oven to 200C. Heat the oil in a saucepan and brown the brisket all over for 4-5 mins. Add 500ml of water and bring to the boil, then cover and pop in the oven. Reduce the oven temperature to 160C and braise for 4 hours, turning the brisket half way through. Remove the meat from the pan and set aside to cool.
  • Meanwhile, combine the barbecue sauce, paprika, chilli powder and maple syrup in a saucepan and bring to a simmer. Cook for 3 mins, then remove from the heat and set aside to cool. Shred the brisket between 2 forks and stir through 250ml of the smoky sauce. Stuff the saucy meat mixture into buns, and serve with cheese, salad and anything else you like to see on your burgers!
