Crab Mac ‘n’ Cheese Recipe

What you'll need:

  • 100g butter, plus extra for greasing
  • 100g plain flour
  • 500g macaroni
  • 1 litre of milk
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard or similar
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 150g fresh brown crabmeat
Serves: 6
Time: 40 minutes

Method

First

First of all, get your oven nice and hot at 200C. Grease up a medium baking dish with a blob of butter, and get your macaroni on the boil as per the pack instructions.

Second

Make a white sauce by melting the butter in a saucepan, and adding the flour to make a thick roux paste. Slowly add the milk - little by little - and stir continuously to make a thick, smooth sauce. Once completed, take off the heat, whisk in the grated cheese, along with the mustard and cayenne pepper.

Third

Drain the cooked macaroni, and combine in the same pan the pasta, the cheese sauce and the brown crabmeat, along with some seasoning. Pop the whole lot into the greased baking dish, and cook in the oven for 30 minutes. Allow to stand for 10 minutes once done before serving, topped with some dill and rocket if you fancy it.
