NYC Deli Burger
- 300g quality beef steak mince
- 2 tsp garlic salt
- 1 tsp chilli powder
- Oil for frying
- 4 slices of emmental cheese
- 8 slices of peppery pastrami
- 4 brioche buns, lightly toasted
- 4 tbsp pickled cabbage
- Sliced gherkins
- For the Sauce
- 4 tbsp mayo
- 1.5 tbsp horseradish sauce
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 finely chopped shallot
- Mix all the ingredients for the sauce in a small bowl, season well and set aside. Mix the mince with the chilli, garlic salt and plenty of pepper, and divide into 4 balls. Form into thick patties, season well and rub with a little oil.
- Fry the burgers in a little oil for 2 mins on each side, then top with a slice of cheese and a few pastrami slices. Cover the pan to let the cheese melt for a couple of minutes. Assemble the burgers by spreading the buns with a generous slick of the sauce, then add a spoonful of pickled cabbage, then the burger, pastrami, cheese and some gherkins. Add the top of the bun and serve with fries - perfect!
