Perfect Beer-Battered Onion Rings

  • 150g self-raising flour
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp sweet paprika
  • ½ tsp oregano
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 175ml lager or pilsner beer
  • 2 onions, cut into 1cm rings
  • Veg oil for deep frying
  • Salt and pepper
  • Preheat a deep fat fryer or large pan with oil at approximately 180C (or sizzling temperature). Mix together the batter ingredients and coat each onion ring well. Deep fry for 2 minutes, or until puffed up and golden. Drain on kitchen paper, and serve as a side with burgers or anything else you fancy!
