Short Rib Bao Buns
- 500g beef short ribs
- 1 tbsp oil
- 250ml soy sauce
- 100g brown sugar
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 spring onions
- 6 star anise
- 1 tbsp chilli flakes
- 1 tbsp cardamom pods
- 3 cloves
- 50g honey
- 100ml rice wine
- 4 x steamed bao buns, to serve
- Pickles and salads, to serve
- Preheat the oven to 170C. Put the short ribs and oil in a casserole, and brown over a high heat for about 3 mins, turning three times. Add all of the remaining ingredients, along with 300ml of water. Bring to a simmer, cover with a lid, and stick the whole lot in the oven for about 2.5 hours.
- Drain the hot beef, and shred between two forks. Stuff the meat into the bao buns (or a normal burger bun!) and add all the pickles and salads you fancy!
