Spiced Beef Burger with Onions

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cm piece of ginger, ground to a paste
  • 2 chopped garlic cloves
  • 2 green chillies, finely chopped
  • 800g beef mince
  • Salt and pepper
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 3 tsp ground coriander
  • ½ tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander
  • Buns and sauces etc to serve
  • Fry the onions in the oil, until softened and golden. Add the ginger, green chilli, and garlic, and continue to cook until everything is soft and slightly coloured. Transfer to a plate to cool.
  • Put the mince into a bowl, add your onion mixture and all the remaining ingredients, and mix it well. Shape into 4 patties with damp hands. Heat up your griddle and fry the burgers with a brush of oil - seasoning as you go - until cooked to your liking. Serve in buns with all your favourite sides.
