Spicy Beef Burgers Recipe

What you'll need:

  • 1 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2cm piece of ginger, very finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1-2 birdseye chillies, deseeded and very finely chopped
  • 800g lean beef mince
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 3 tsp ground coriander
  • 1-2 tsp chilli powder (to taste)
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander
  • Pinch of salt
  • Buns and extras to serve

Time: 30 mins

Serves: Makes 4 big burgers

Method

First

Cook the onions in a large frying pan and some oil to soften. Add the ginger, garlic, and chopped chilli, and cook for a further 3-4 minutes. Transfer to a plate.

Second

Put the mince in a mixing bowl along with the onion mix and all the remaining ingredients, and mix well with your hands until smooth. Shape into four big burgers.

Third

Heat up a large griddle pan, and brush the burgers with a little more oil. Cook for four minutes on each side (for medium), then leave to rest for a few minutes. When ready to serve, construct your burgers in a bun, with whatever sauces or pickles etc you fancy.
