The Argentinian wine scene surrounding Mendoza just seems to keep getting better, and better, and better. It’s almost as if every time Mendoza is hailed as being at its peak, the winemakers who call this impressive region their home make a concerted effort to smash their own records, and take their game to new levels.

This is certainly the case when it comes to Bodega La Rural, a Mendoza winery and wine museum which is taking viticulture to ever higher heights, and constantly winning new fans all across the globe.

Set up by an Italian family at the turn of the last century, like many Mendoza wineries, Bodega La Rural was a slow burner. However, as the decades passed and greater interest poured into the produce of Argentina, the winery gradually began to find its true voice as a pioneer of the red wines this corner of the earth does so well.

It’s impossible not to be impressed by their operation; sat at a frankly ridiculously high altitude in the foothills of the Andes (with monstrously big, snowy mountains looming on the horizon) the winemakers of Bodega Rural have perfected the art of altitude-based viticulture.

Incredibly low yields produce phenomenal Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes (among others), packed full of mountainous character and all the fiery distinction we associate with this country’s produce. If you haven’t yet discovered Mendoza and it’s vibrant, seductive vino, we can’t think of a better place to start than here.
