Bratwurst with Braised Cabbage

  • 1 tsp oil
  • 8 Bratwurst sausages
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 sliced onions
  • 2 tsp caraway seeds
  • ½ cabbage, cut into 4 wedges
  • 300ml chicken stock
  • 3 tbsp crème fraîche
  • Fry the sausages in the oil for 10 mins. Remove from the pan and set aside, then melt the butter in the pan and fry the onions for 10 mins or until golden.
  • Stir the caraway into the onions and fry for 2 mins, then nestle the wedges of cabbage into the pan. Pour in the stock, cover with the lid and simmer for 5 mins, then add the sausages to the pan and cook for 10 mins more. Spoon in the crème fraîche, gently mix into the sauce, then serve in bowls with mashed potato and plenty of mustard.
