Easy Beef Cannelloni
- 1 kg minced beef
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 chopped onion
- 4 crushed garlic cloves
- 2 x 660g jars of passata
- Large pinch of caster sugar
- 400g dried cannelloni tubes
- 50g butter
- 50g plain flour
- 600ml whole milk
- 140g cream cheese with garlic and herbs
- 140g grated parmesan
- Fry the beef mince in a pan until browned, then remove, and set aside. Soften the onion for five minutes, then stir in the garlic, followed by the browned meat. Add 1 1⁄2 jars of the passata and the sugar, and simmer for 20 minutes.
- Make the white sauce by heating the butter in a small saucepan, then adding the flour once it is bubbling. Add the milk gradually, stirring constantly to create a smooth and silky sauce. Remove from the heat, and stir in the cream cheese.
- Pour the remaining passata in the bottom of a roasting tin or baking dish (you’ll probably need 2-3 dishes for the quantity in this dinner party recipe). Spoon the beef mixture into the tubes, and lay them down in the dish. Pour the white sauce over the top, and sprinkle with parmesan. Bake in the oven at 200C for 45 minutes, or until the pasta is tender and the topping is golden.
