Meet the Maker - Liam Steevenson MW | Owner of Vineyard Productions & flying winemaker

Meet Liam Steevenson MW, the man behind Vineyard Productions; a supply partner of Good Pair Days, who decided to enter the winemaking world by teaming up with over 30 producers from around the world to craft bespoke, delicious wines of quite staggering value.

Winemakers come in all shapes and sizes and from all walks of life. It isn't unheard of to hear stories of the odd Master of Wine dipping their toe in the production side of things, and this weeks guest has done just that! More than a toe, actually...

Meet Liam Steevenson MW, the man behind Vineyard Productions; a supply partner of Good Pair Days, who decided to enter the winemaking world by teaming up with over 30 producers from around the world to craft bespoke, delicious wines of quite staggering value. We love working with people like this, it makes us feel that bit closer to the wines themselves and in turn, this brings you one step closer to the fantastic producers that we work with here at Good Pair Days towers.

Over to you Liam...

Why did you decide to get into winemaking?

I have worked in the wine industry all my life, but for the most of that it has been buying and selling. Five years ago, I took the plunge into wine production and now I collaborate with vineyard owners and winemakers to produce over thirty different wines around the world.

Do you have a favourite wine or wine region outside of your own?

Central Otago in New Zealand is one of my favourite wine regions. I also love Terra Alta in the northern hills of Catalonia in Spain, we make a very interesting wine range there called ‘El Garbi’ which is named after the Arab wind that blows through the region..

What grape do you like working with the most and why?

Syrah, as it is a grape variety that performs well in regions that I love like Catalonia, the Roussillon, the Rhone and Hawke’s Bay in New Zealand. It is flexible, can be produced in hot and cold conditions, and it submits to a number of interesting winemaking techniques. It’s the backbone for many of our projects, namely Immortelle which is a wine that we make in the Roussillon.

Celebrity Crush?

Sienna Miller

Favourite Movie?

Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid (yep, I am that old!).

Favourite type of music/artist?

Bruce Springsteen (told you I was old!).

Fun fact about you that has nothing to do with wine?

I rowed across the Atlantic ocean and broke two Guinness World Records (I’m not sure if that’s a cool fact or a mad one, but I can’t dance and I can’t sing, and my wardrobe isn’t that great so that’s the coolest thing I can think of!).
