- 500g calamari rings
- 150g cornflour
- 2 tsp Chinese five spice
- 2 tsp fine salt
- 1 tsp white pepper
- Oil for deep-frying
- 1 long red chilli, thinly sliced
- Lemon wedges, to serve
- Mix cornflour, five spice, salt and white pepper in a large bowl. Pat calamari dry, then toss in the spiced flour to coat.
- Heat oil to 180°C in a deep pan and fry calamari in batches for 2-3 mins until crispy and just golden.
- Drain immediately on paper towel and serve hot with sliced chilli and lemon wedges.
