What you'll need:

  • 450g beef mince
  • 1 tsp crushed garlic
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp sunflower oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp finely chopped ginger
  • 400g tinned tomatoes
  • 1 tsp tomato puree
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • Cooked rice, to serve

Time: 30 mins

Serves: 4

Method

First

Firstly, make some quick meatballs. Mix together the mince, garlic, half the onion, garam masala, and egg in a bowl, and with wet hands, shape them into 24 meatballs.

Second

Preheat your grill. Grill your meatballs on a tray for 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned all over, and set aside. While they’re cooking, heat the oil in a pan, and add the cumin seeds and remaining onion. Soften for a few minutes, then stir in the ginger.

Third

Add tomatoes and turmeric, and stir in tomato puree. Cook this down for 15 minutes, then turn down the heat and add the meatballs. Cook for a further five minutes, ensuring the meatballs are well covered. Serve immediately with cooked rice.
